Filter chicken oil using a plate-and-frame filter press

Background: Previously, the friend of a Peruvian client used a filter press equipped with 24 filter plates and 25 filter boxes to filter chicken oil. Inspired by this, the client wanted to continue using the same type of filter press and pair it with a 5-horsepower pump for production. Since the chicken oil processed by this client was not for the human food processing industry, the hygiene standards for the equipment were relatively relaxed. However, the client emphasized that the equipment needed to have a high level of automation, and the specific requirements included automatic feeding, automatic plate pulling, and the provision of conveyor belts and other functional modules. In terms of selecting the feed pump, I recommended two products to the client: a gear oil pump and an air-driven diaphragm pump. These two pumps have their own characteristics, and the air-driven diaphragm pump has better adaptability and efficiency when dealing with materials with a higher content of solid impurities.

Filtering solution design: After comprehensive consideration of various factors, the final filtering solution we have proposed is as follows: We will use a 20-square-meter plate-and-frame filter press and equip it with an air-operated diaphragm pump as the feeding equipment. In the design of the automatic plate-retracting function, we adopt a technical scheme of using oil cylinders to retract the plates in two stages, and innovatively add the function of vibrating the filter plates. This design is mainly based on the stickiness characteristic of chicken fat itself – even if the filter plates are retracted normally, the filter cake may still stick to the filter plates and be difficult to detach. The vibration function can effectively solve this problem. In addition, with the addition of a conveyor belt device, the filter cake can be efficiently collected and conveniently transported, significantly improving the automation level and production efficiency of the overall operation process.
