The Application of Membrane Filter Press in the Lithium Carbonate Separation process

In the field of lithium resource recovery and wastewater treatment, the solid-liquid separation of the mixed solution of lithium carbonate and sodium is a key link. For a certain customer’s demand to treat 8 cubic meters of wastewater containing 30% solid lithium carbonate, the diaphragm filter press has become the ideal solution due to its advantages such as high-efficiency filtration, deep pressing and low moisture content. This scheme adopts a model with a filtration area of 40㎡, combined with hot water washing and air-blowing technology, significantly improving the purity and recovery rate of lithium carbonate.

Core process design
The core advantage of the diaphragm filter press lies in its secondary pressing function. By introducing compressed air or water into the diaphragm, the filter cake can withstand higher pressure, thereby fully squeezing out the residual sodium-containing mother liquor and reducing the enlistment loss of lithium. The equipment is equipped with a 520L filter chamber volume and a 30mm filter cake thickness to ensure that the processing efficiency is in sync with the production rhythm. The filter plate is made of reinforced PP material, which is heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant, and suitable for the working condition of 70℃ hot water washing. The filter cloth is made of PP material, taking into account both filtration accuracy and durability.

Function optimization and performance improvement
To meet the customers’ requirements for low moisture content, the plan adds cross-washing and air-blowing devices. Hot water washing can effectively dissolve the soluble sodium salts in the filter cake, while air blowing further reduces the moisture content of the filter cake through high-pressure air flow, thereby enhancing the purity of the finished lithium carbonate product. The equipment adopts an automatic hydraulic pressing and manual plate pulling unloading design, which is convenient to operate and highly stable.

Material and structure compatibility
The main body of the filter press is a carbon steel welded frame, with a corrosion-resistant coating on the surface to ensure its ability to resist environmental erosion during long-term operation. The central feeding method ensures the uniformity of material distribution and avoids uneven loading in the filter chamber. The overall design of the machine fully takes into account the process characteristics of lithium carbonate separation, achieving a balance among recovery rate, energy consumption and maintenance cost.

This solution achieves efficient separation of lithium carbonate and sodium solution through the efficient pressing of diaphragm filter press technology and a multi-functional auxiliary system, providing customers with a wastewater treatment path that is both economical and reliable.
