Customer Case – A Large-scale Seawater Desalination Pre-treatment Project in the Middle East

Project Background

A large industrial park in the Middle East was facing persistent operational difficulties with its seawater desalination pretreatment system. The raw water intake was characterized by high sand content and significant fluctuations in algae and suspended solids. The park’s original filtration system relied on traditional bag-type filters, which proved to be highly inefficient and costly. The filter bags required frequent replacement, leading to exorbitant labor costs for maintenance. Moreover, each shutdown for bag replacement disrupted the water production line, adversely affecting the stable operation of the downstream reverse osmosis (RO) membrane units.

The customer urgently required a filtration solution that could:

  • Operate continuously without interruption,

  • Automatically discharge waste,

  • Minimize manual intervention.

Solution

To address these challenges, we supplied the customer with our JYSCF-300-316 self-cleaning filter.

  • Design & Materials: The unit features a brush-type online cleaning structure. The cylinder, filter element, and brush bristles are all constructed from SS316 stainless steel, providing superior resistance to chloride ion corrosion inherent in seawater applications.

  • Filtration Performance: With a filtration accuracy of 20 microns, the system effectively intercepts fine sand and organic suspended matter.

  • Automation & Control: The filter is equipped with a differential pressure sensor and a PLC intelligent control system. When the differential pressure reaches the preset value, the cleaning program initiates automatically. The entire cleaning cycle takes only a few seconds and does not interrupt the continuous water supply of the main pipeline.

  • System Integration: To meet the customer’s requirement for remote centralized control, we provided open Modbus RTU (RS485) and TCP/IP dual communication protocols. This facilitated seamless integration of the filter into the park’s existing DCS central control system. Operators can now monitor differential pressure, cleaning frequency, and operational status in real-time from the control room, eliminating the need for on-site inspections.09_沙特详情_细节展示_修正

Operational Results

The equipment was installed and commissioned for continuous operation in early August 2025. Since then, the filter has performed with outstanding stability. Key performance indicators include:

  • Improved Water Quality: Filtration accuracy meets design specifications. The turbidity of the feed water to the RO membrane has decreased significantly, extending the membrane cleaning cycle by approximately 40%.

  • Efficient Cleaning: The automatic cleaning function responds reliably, performing an average of 4 to 6 cleaning cycles per day. Wastewater consumption for flushing is less than 60% of that required by traditional backwashing methods.

  • Reduced Maintenance: Manual intervention has been drastically reduced from weekly filter bag replacements to a simple monthly check of the brush head status, yielding substantial savings in labor costs.

  • Reliable Connectivity: Remote communication has been stable, with no instances of disconnection or data latency. The customer’s central control system now fully records all historical operational data.

Customer Feedback

The on-site customer representative provided the following positive feedback:

“The implementation of this self-cleaning filter has completely resolved our previous problems of frequent shutdowns and filter bag replacements. We are particularly impressed by the corrosion resistance of the all-stainless-steel material in the seaside environment, which is characterized by high humidity and high salinity.”

Case Summary

This collaboration underscores the exceptional adaptability of the JYSCF-300-316 self-cleaning filter in challenging environments characterized by harsh water quality and high-temperature, high-salt conditions.

The integration of an intelligent control system with standard communication protocols allows the filter to be easily incorporated into existing automation frameworks. It is an ideal solution for overseas industrial customers with stringent requirements for:

  • Continuous production,

  • Low maintenance,

  • Remote monitoring and control.
