Customer Case: Solid-Liquid Separation System Upgrade Project of a Chemical Enterprise in South Asia

Project Background
This is a medium-sized chemical enterprise in South Asia, mainly engaged in the production of synthetic dyes and their intermediates. During the production process, the enterprise generates a large amount of acidic slurry with high color and high suspended solids. The original filtration equipment was an old manual plate and frame filter press, made of cast iron, which was severely corroded after long-term contact with acidic media. The filter plates frequently leaked and deformed, resulting in turbid filtrate and high moisture content in the filter cake, which not only affected production but also increased the energy consumption and cost of the subsequent drying process.

By the end of 2024, the enterprise planned to expand a new dye intermediate production line and decided to simultaneously replace the old filtration equipment with a more corrosion-resistant and automated filter press system. After multiple rounds of inquiries and scheme comparisons, the customer ultimately chose our BAY6/450 type fully stainless steel filter press.

Solution

Given the strong acidity and high solid content of the customer’s slurry, we recommend the following configuration scheme:

  • The frame is made of carbon steel with an outer layer of SS304 stainless steel, ensuring both structural strength and surface corrosion resistance.

  • All filter plates and filter frames are upgraded to SS304 material, consisting of 14 filter plates and 15 filter frames, effectively resisting the erosion of acidic media.

  • A single reverse-flow hydraulic sealing system is adopted, eliminating the problems of splashing and leakage during the filtration process.

  • The reverse-flow outlet is equipped with 304 stainless steel flanges, gaskets and connecting pipes, achieving seamless connection with the customer’s existing pipelines.

  • The hydraulic cylinder pressure is stable, and the automatic pressure maintenance reduces manual intervention.

Implementation Process
At the beginning of 2025, the supply contract was signed by both parties. Our company strictly organized production according to the delivery schedule and completed the equipment manufacturing and factory inspection in mid-July 2025. The equipment was shipped by CFR Karachi Port by sea. After the customer received the equipment, our company guided the installation team remotely to complete the equipment positioning, pipeline connection, and hydraulic system debugging.

From unpacking inspection to trial operation, the entire process lasted approximately two weeks. During the debugging period, the customer highly praised the sealing effect of the concealed flow flange, believing that this design significantly reduced the workload of on-site pipeline welding.

Operation Results
After the equipment was put into operation, its actual performance exceeded the customer’s expectations:

  • The clarity of the filtrate was significantly improved compared to the old equipment, with the suspended matter removal rate reaching over 99%, meeting the feed requirements for the subsequent refining process.

  • The moisture content of the filter cake was reduced from over 40% to around 28%, reducing the energy consumption for subsequent drying.

  • The single batch filtration cycle was shortened by approximately 20%, and the overall processing capacity of the production line was increased.

  • The full stainless steel filtration unit operated smoothly in the environment of continuous contact with acidic slurry, without any signs of corrosion or deformation.

  • The automatic pressure maintenance function of the hydraulic system was stable, and the on-site operators reported that the equipment operated with low noise and was easy to maintain.

Customer Feedback
The production manager of the enterprise stated at the trial operation summary meeting that the material selection and the concealed flow sealing design of this filter press are highly suitable for their corrosive working environment. The equipment arrived in good condition and was installed smoothly. The processing accuracy and sealing performance of the components have all met the expected standards. Currently, this equipment has been included in the standard configuration of their new production line. The customer also expressed that they will give priority to continuing the cooperation when expanding production in the future.

Summary
This South Asian chemical project has fully demonstrated the reliability and adaptability of our company’s BAY6/450 type stainless steel filter press in handling acidic and corrosive slurries. Through material upgrading, sealing optimization and export design integration, it has solved the long-standing problems of equipment corrosion and turbid filtrate for customers, significantly reducing operating costs and labor maintenance burdens. It is a successful case of cross-border industrial equipment cooperation.
