Project Background
A large-scale fine chemical enterprise located in Europe mainly produces dyes and intermediates. During its production process, it generates approximately 15 tons of organic sludge with high water content every day. The original plate and frame filter press, due to severe corrosion of the frame and aging and deformation of the filter plates, has resulted in long filtration cycles, high liquid content in the filtrate, and prominent leakage problems on site, which do not meet the increasingly strict environmental protection requirements of the European Union.
Solution
This client has put forward the following core requirements:
The equipment must be able to withstand weakly acidic slurry (with a pH value ranging from 5 to 6).
The filtration area must be able to handle a processing capacity of 4 tons of dry sludge per batch.
Spillage or leakage is not allowed at the site.
The budget is limited, but the requirement is that the lifespan of the key components should be no less than 5 years.
Based on the parameters provided by the customer, we recommend the automatic hydraulic box-type filter press (with center-feed underflow system). The specific configuration is as follows:
Frame: Carbon steel (with surface heavy anti-corrosion coating)
Filter plate: Reinforced PP, 630×630mm
Filter cake thickness: 30mm
Feed method: Center feed
Discharge method: Counterflow
Feed pressure: 0.6 Mpa
Compression method: Automatic hydraulic
Pulling plate method: Manual pulling of the plate
Operation effect
Three months after the equipment was put into operation, the customer provided the following feedback:
Filter cake moisture content: Reduced from 68% of the original equipment to 52%
Single cycle time: Reduced from 90 minutes to 65 minutes (feed + pressing + cake discharge)
Leakage situation: The concealed structure has completely eliminated any leakage at the site.
Operation experience: The automatic hydraulic pressing is stable and reliable. The manual lever operation does not rely on automated components, and the failure rate is low.
Customer Review
“This 630 small-sized filter press may look compact, but it is perfectly capable of handling our 10-15 tons of sludge per day. What I’m most satisfied with is the undercurrent design. The workshop floor has never again seen any slurry. The manual lever operation not only saves money but also, as the workers have reported, is more flexible than the fully automatic option. We will definitely choose the same model for our next batch of equipment.”
Case Summary
This case demonstrates that for overseas chemical enterprises with medium processing capacity, environmental protection and leak prevention requirements, and moderate budgets, the configuration scheme of carbon steel frame + reinforced PP filter plate + central feed undercurrent + automatic hydraulic pressing + manual pulling plate can effectively solve the problem of sludge dewatering in the chemical industry without increasing the complexity of automation, and can also meet the environmental protection discharge standards of Europe and America.
