Customized Press Filter and Heat Exchanger Delivery Case for the Copper Electrolysis Refining Project in Tanzania

In the field of wet metallurgy and Non-ferrous metals refining, dealing with electrolyte solutions with high temperature and high acidity has always been a severe test for filtration equipment. Recently, we successfully customized and delivered a set of corrosion-resistant press filter system and matching plate heat exchangers to a customer in Tanzania engaged in copper electrolysis refining, helping its electrolyte purification production line operate efficiently.

Customer Background and Core Pain Points

This Tanzanian customer mainly engages in copper electrolysis refining. Its electrolyte system is a typical copper sulfate-sulfuric acid system. The customer site faces two major problems:

  • 01. First, the total volume of the electrolyte is 200 cubic meters, and it needs to meet the daily processing capacity of 50 cubic meters and a single operation duration of 12 hours.
  • 02. Second, the material temperature is as high as 55-70°C, and the maximum acidity reaches 25% (250 grams/liter). Conventional materials’ filtration equipment is prone to corrosion and aging, resulting in frequent maintenance and high downtime costs.

Tailored Solution

In response to the customer’s special conditions, our technical team quickly intervened and, leveraging the factory’s customization advantages, provided a targeted equipment configuration:

Enhanced Corrosion Resistance Design

We recommend the XAY20/630-30 box-type press filter. The frame is made of carbon steel and wrapped with SS316L stainless steel, while the inlet pipelines and the pump body of the QBK-40 pneumatic diaphragm pump are made of SS316L. This eliminates the risk of sulfuric acid corrosion from the source.

High-Temperature Requirements

We selected 700*700mm polypropylene (PP) filter plates (24 filter plates + 2 head and tail plates), with a double dark flow design and handholds at the center inlet hole, DN65, and dark flow holes DN50 flange connection, perfectly capable of withstanding 55-70°C high-temperature materials.

Heat Exchange Synergy

A 10.8m² plate heat exchanger was configured. The plates are made of 254SMO material and sealed with fluorocarbon rubber gaskets, ensuring stable temperature of the electrolyte before entering the press filtration process.

Consumables and Accessories

The delivery included 200 pieces of standard filter cloths and a complete set of diaphragm pump accessories, including balls, ball seats, and PTFE membranes, reducing the customer’s subsequent procurement costs.

Strict Delivery and Packaging Standards

Considering the long-distance international transportation and the customer’s customs clearance requirements, we strictly followed the export standards: The press filter and all supporting accessories were packed in one export wooden box, while the heat exchanger was packed independently. Before shipment, we cooperated with the COC certification agent to complete on-site inspection to ensure all indicators met the standards before sealing the box and affixing the label. In logistics, we were responsible for booking and transporting the shipping under the CIF terms, eliminating the customer’s worries.

Project Results and Customer Feedback

After the equipment arrived in Tanzania and was put into operation, the hydraulic automatic press tightness and manual pull plate operation were smooth, the pneumatic diaphragm pump feeding was stable, and the double dark flow structure effectively prevented filter liquid leakage. The customer highly praised the equipment’s stable performance in a strong acid and high-temperature environment, especially appreciating our detailed configuration of the entire SS316L piping and backup filter cloths, believing that this significantly reduced the daily maintenance frequency of the production line.

Conclusion

The successful delivery of this Tanzania project once again demonstrates our professional capabilities in the field of customized anti-corrosion filtration equipment. Whether it is the solid-liquid separation of high-temperature and strong-acid electrolyte, or the complete equipment matching under complex working conditions, we can provide one-stop factory customization services from design, production, inspection to logistics. In the future, we will continue to focus on the African and global metallurgical markets, and provide more customers with safe, durable and efficient filtration solutions.
