Project Background
A medium-sized wet smelting enterprise for nickel ore in Southeast Asia has long been plagued by problems such as low solid-liquid separation efficiency of tailings slurry and excessively high moisture content of filter cakes, resulting in high transportation costs. The original plate and frame filter equipment has long filtering cycles and frequent filter cloth damage, which not only affects production capacity but also increases the subsequent water treatment load due to turbid filter liquid. The customer urgently needs an upgrade solution with high automation level, stable operation and simple maintenance
Solution
After conducting on-site condition investigation and analyzing the material characteristics, we recommended the XMY20-630/30 automatic hydraulic box-type filter press to the customer. This model is equipped with a 20㎡ filtration area and 630mm box-type filter plates, and adopts a central hole feeding design. It effectively solves the industry problem of slurry with large solid content fluctuations easily segregating and uneven filter cake thickness under the traditional corner feeding method. The dual clear liquid outlets facilitate the operators to observe the liquid output from each filter plate in real time and quickly locate the abnormal points.
The equipment is equipped with a carbon steel frame to provide a stable load-bearing foundation. The surface has been treated for rust prevention, which is sufficient to cope with the humid working environment in the mining area. Considering the customers’ habit of manual operation, a combination mode of automatic hydraulic pressing and manual pulling plate is adopted – the hydraulic system ensures a constant pressing force and reliable sealing, preventing material spraying and slurry leakage; the manual pulling plate retains the flexibility of the discharge operation and reduces the reliance on the fully automatic control system and maintenance costs. The double PVC water collection troughs comprehensively collect the capillary filtrate from the filter cloth, keeping the bottom of the equipment and the operation area clean.
Operating effect
After the equipment was put into operation, the filtration efficiency significantly improved. The central feed ensured the uniform distribution of the slurry in the filter chamber, and the thickness of each batch of filter cake was consistent, with the moisture content being stably controlled within the range specified by the customer. The hydraulic pressure holding system operated smoothly without any pressure loss phenomenon. The manual pulling plate mechanism was easy to operate, and the single-time discharge time was shortened by nearly 40% compared to before.

This XMY20-630 model operates very smoothly. The hydraulic pressing is effortless. The dual water tank design is very practical and makes the site much cleaner. Although the manual pulling plate requires a few more steps, it is easy to maintain. We can handle the filter cloth replacement and daily maintenance ourselves, without waiting for the manufacturer’s after-sales service. It’s very convenient.
